Rochester and Strood

Yes we can

Pass a Climate and Nature Act

Roz Savage MP has selected the CAN Bill in the Private Members' Bill Ballot, and now has the chance to progress all the way. We have a golden opportunity to pass a Climate and Nature Act—but it's critical that we have as many supporting MPs as possible to help it succeed.

Can you write to your MP and ask them to back the CAN Bill at this critical moment?

I'm writing to you as your constituent and as a supporter of the Climate & Nature Bill (or 'CAN Bill').

I back the CAN Bill because...

As you know, the climate and nature crises fuel one another, and as one of the world's most nature-depleted countries, the UK Government must increase its ambition and action in line with the science.

Here locally, we can already see the impact of…

Labour's clean energy by 2030 mission is very welcome, as are the announcements I've heard about protecting nature. But as almost 1,200 leading scientists have pointed out, we face intertwined crises—climate and nature—and without the CAN Bill's 'umbrella framework' to integrate your GB Energy and Green Prosperity plans, you may fail to tackle either crisis sufficiently—and you also risk making each one worse.

The CAN Bill offers an evidence-led statutory framework that follows the best-available science; integrates the UK's climate and nature policies; and locks into law the UK's international climate and biodiversity obligations.

I was delighted to hear that the CAN Bill has been selected in the Private Members' Bill Ballot. It's already championed by Alex Sobel MP, Olivia Blake MP and 80 of your other colleagues. It's supported across the Labour movement—including CLPs, such as Holborn & St Pancras; Sadiq Khan, Andy Burnham, Tracy Brabin; and SERA, Feargal Sharkey's Labour environment campaign.

That's why, as your constituent, and as a local voter, I'm asking you to deliver the change we need to see. Will you add your name in support of the CAN Bill?

I look forward to hearing from you.
