Campaign for the Climate and Nature Bill

Beverley and Holderness, 100 days to follow the science

There’s a golden opportunity to follow the science by fast tracking the Climate and Nature Bill—one that can’t be ignored by the new Government during their first 100 days in office.

We need your help! Can you lobby your local Councillors and ask them to champion the need for the CAN Bill?

Not yet backing the CAN Bill

Graham Stuart MP, the Conservatives MP for Beverley and Holderness, has not yet pledged to support the Climate and Nature Bill.

Will you write to them and ask them to support and progress the CAN Bill?

Urgent Action

This new Parliament is the most crucial yet as the window for action is almost closed. We must show our newly elected MPs that the CAN Bill has a strong, local mandate they can't ignore.

That means every email sent to your local council will help us build support to progress the CAN Bill. Will you write to your local Councillors today, asking them to join 370 other local authorities that are backing the Bill?

I’m writing to ask you for your help in presenting a motion at our Local Council in support of the Climate and Nature (CAN) Bill.

As you know, the climate and nature crises fuel one another, and as one of the world’s most nature-depleted countries, the UK must increase its ambition and action in line with the science.

In our local community, we can see...

The CAN Bill offers an evidence-led statutory framework that follows the best-available science, integrates our climate and nature policies, and locks, into law, the UK’s international climate and biodiversity obligations. This proposed legislation would create a legal commitment to follow the science on tackling the climate-nature crisis. We are therefore asking all councils to vote to show their support for this UK-wide legislation.

By doing so, you would join 371 other councils from all across the UK nations in their support of the CAN Bill. Although this is a Westminster Bill, it covers issues that are deeply connected to our community in our constituency.

Building up local support, including that of our Local Council, gives our local MP the mandate to advocate for the Bill in the UK Parliament. Currently, the CAN Bill has the support of 238 cross-party MPs and Peers, making it the largest platform for a joined-up climate and nature response in Westminster.
